University compliance
The Office of Institutional Equity was created in 2018 when two long-standing offices, the Office of Affirmative Action and Equal Opportunity and the Office of Student Welfare and Title IX, were merged under the leadership of Emily Springston.
The new office provides direction and expertise to the University’s efforts to promote institutional equity. It has been charged with the responsibility for:
- Managing the University's Non-Discrimination/Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Policy (UA-01) and its Discrimination, Harassment, and Sexual Misconduct Policy (UA-03).
- Coordinating the University's Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Policy (UA-02).
- Overseeing the University's complaince with federal civil rights laws including Title IX, Title VII, and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
- The Student Welfare Initiative, an intensified effort to respond to sexual assault and all forms of sexual violence misconduct across campuses
The office thus supports and advises the efforts of officers on all IU campuses in ensuring a diverse and equitable work and academic environment for all members of the university community.
